Tormentor Timer Guide
Master Tormentor spawn times and secure Aghanim's Shards for your team
What is Tormentor?
Tormentor is a powerful neutral creep introduced in Dota 2 patch 7.33. There are two Tormentors on the map - one near each team's base. When killed, the Tormentor drops an Aghanim's Shard that is automatically given to a random allied hero who doesn't already have one.
The Tormentor has a unique mechanic: it reflects a percentage of all damage taken back to attackers, making it dangerous to solo early and requiring team coordination to take down efficiently.
Tormentor Spawn Times
Tormentor Locations
Each team has their own Tormentor located near their base:
- Radiant Tormentor: Located in the jungle area northeast of the Radiant base, near the ancient camp.
- Dire Tormentor: Located in the jungle area southwest of the Dire base, near the ancient camp.
Your team's Tormentor is safer to take but gives the same reward. The enemy's Tormentor is riskier but can be taken to deny them a Shard.
Tormentor Mechanics
Damage Reflection
Tormentor reflects 20% of all damage taken back to the attacker(s). This means:
- High DPS heroes will take significant reflected damage
- Spreading damage across multiple heroes reduces individual reflection damage
- Lifesteal and regeneration help sustain through the fight
- Some abilities that don't directly damage (like summons) can be useful
Aghanim's Shard Distribution
When Tormentor dies, the Aghanim's Shard is given to a random allied hero who:
- Participated in the kill (was nearby)
- Does not already have an Aghanim's Shard
If all nearby heroes already have Shards, no Shard is dropped. Plan your team composition when taking Tormentor!
Strategic Tips
Timing Your Attempt
Take Tormentor when you have a numbers advantage or after winning a team fight. The 20:00 spawn often coincides with key item timings.
Team Composition
Bring 2-3 heroes minimum. Heroes with summons, high armor, or lifesteal excel at Tormentor. Avoid sending your squishy supports alone.
Vision Control
Ward the area before attempting. The enemy team will often contest or try to steal the last hit for the Shard.
Shard Priority
Consider which heroes benefit most from Shards. Some Shards are game-changing while others are situational.
Heroes Good at Taking Tormentor
- Ursa: High single-target DPS with lifesteal from Fury Swipes
- Lifestealer: Built-in lifesteal sustains through reflection
- Lone Druid: Spirit Bear can tank reflection damage
- Lycan: Wolves and high DPS make quick work of Tormentor
- Enigma: Eidolons spread the reflection damage
- Chen: Dominated creeps can help tank
